Alex Mandli, a nationally and internationally recognized artist and upcoming RAM Fellow, is known for the perfectly balanced earthen colored forms he creates using the Japanese saggar firing method. Each porcelain vessel is burnished multiple times with stones during the leather hard phase, fired, and then wrapped in combustible organic materials and refired in a saggar firing pit. Upon removal from the pit the soot and ash is washed away revealing the unique colorations which identify Mandli's work. These unglazed objet d'art are not intended to hold liquids. Mandli's work, available in the main gallery, varies in size from small 4 inch vessels to very large and range in price from around $80 to $800.
